Charming 3-story house in a beautiful valley on a gravel county road, 25 minutes to Bethel Woods (Original Woodstock), 15 minutes from a small town (Callicoon, NY) that has “everything”, including a supermarket, first-rate movie theater, and a range of restaurants including an upscale tapas wine and beer bar.
There’s virtually no car traffic. The 100-year-old farm house was completely rebuilt 35 years ago and then renovated again 25 years ago. It has a large back patio, as well as a large covered front porch which is wonderful on rainy days. The lawn is sprayed monthly for tics.
There are three full bathrooms, one on each level, with a total of five bedrooms and outdoor entrances on both the bottom and middle levels. The bottom level has two bedrooms: the first with a queen bed and the second with twin beds. The middle level has a large kitchen and open living room/dining room. The kitchen opens onto the patio at the back of house, and the living room opens to the covered porch at the front of the house. It also has a wood-burning stove which functions as a fireplace. The top level has three bedrooms: the first with a queen bed, the second with another queen bed, and the third with bunk beds. The bathroom on the top level is particularly lovely, with a large antique claw-foot tub.
The house is furnished in early American decor with much charm. It is cozy and casual, and people find it relaxing. In the winter there is downhill skiing at Elk Mountain 40 minutes away with a ski school for both children and adults. In the summer there is horseback riding within walking distance. There’s also a weekly farmers market equal to the quality of the Union Square market in NYC. There is lake swimming in the area, and regular swimming lessons are offered at the community pool in Calicoon. The Delaware River next to Calicoon provides opportunities for boating and rafting. Bethel Woods is a 25-minute drive and features well-known performers such as James Taylor, Alanis Morissette, and Santana (search for “Bethel Woods Concert Schedule”).
